The NAIA has a long history of producing elite-level athletes in all of our sports. Well, the year 1968 was no exception! I recently came across an old NAIA newsletter from that year, which highlighted all of the NAIA athletes who competed in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. A total of 19 NAIA athletes in 5 NAIA-sponsored sports and 17 NAIA-associated athletes in 8 non-sponsored sports participated, including 3 basketball players on the US gold medal team!
