Fresno Pacific (Calif.) men’s and women’s tennis has been in the No. 1 spot in NAIA ratings for a stretch and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical (Fla.) swept NAIA Player of the Week honors this week…and we have a long way to go before singles and doubles players make their way to Mobile, Ala. for the 2011 NAIA Men’s and Women’s Tennis National Championships, May 17-21, 2011, contested in the Mobile Tennis Center.
Thousands of NAIA student-athletes recently wrapped up an exciting winter sports season. There was a Cinderella story out of Kansas City when Pikeville knocked off five top-10 seeds in their run at a NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship title. Cornerstone University won the hearts of many when the team’s MVP handed off his trophy to a young boy with cancer and teams in the Golden State Athletic Conference dominated the pool scene. We’ve recapped the NAIA’s winter national championships below and hope you’ll take some time to learn more about the student-athlete experience.
NAIA winter championships are in full effect and in the next two weeks top teams in NAIA Division I and II Men’s and Women’s Basketball will compete in what’s coined College Basketball’s Toughest Tournaments. Each host site will feature 32 teams, 31 games and 1 national champion! It’s wall-to-wall basketball! We hope you’ll take some time to explore NAIA hoops in the coming weeks.
North Farmington senior Karleigh Creighton will continue her softball career at the collegiate level next year when she joins the Madonna University team.
